D'Arcy, our paths haven't crossed in quite a few years, but you and Jeannette have never been far from my mind, during those many years, and especially more recently.
I first met you in the early 2000s when you were the quiet, gentle, and insanely skilled wrench at Evolution. I remember people asking me who worked on my bike and I'd say, "you know, D'Arcy with an apostrophe". I was loyal to that store because of you! Without ego and with a true passion for mountain biking, you tolerated my naivety and ignorance and carefully talked me through braking systems, gearing, and bike fit. It was so evident that you were doing exactly what you were meant to be doing. And without a doubt, your passion for biking contributed to my love of the sport.
And then I met Jeannette. The sweetest and one of the strongest women I know (who always kicked my ass on a bike!!!!). As a young woman who hadn't made the best relationship choices, you and Jeannette had a relationship that I envied. You shared your passions, you were both so kind, and you wanted to live a rich life connected to the outdoors. I admired Jeannette's passion for living a meaningful and simple life. In fact, I didn't know what permaculture was until I met her and now I live off the grid!
I also thought it was a testament to your kind spirit the way you leaned into your friendship with Al and loved him deeper when he needed his friends the most. Heather has always spoken with gratitude for how you've loved her family, no questions asked.
D'Arcy, with an apostrophe, I'm so grateful that I met you 15+ years ago, and I'm so thankful that you brought Jeannette into my life. Happy Trails, Vanessa xoxo
P.S. I hope Free Hub Mag will forgive me for stealing this photo of you. It's the best :)

What a great photo. Love this guy ❤️
