rarely have i been affected by bad news like i have upon learning of D’arcys’ passing. i’m still sitting here stunned.
i last saw D’arcy several months ago at Meadow Park. he had just learned his cancer was in remission, and he was in a good mood, yet pragmatic about his future. i’m not sure why, but i let him know how much i appreciated his friendship. D’arcy had a quiet wisdom about him, and despite being several (many) years older than him, i respected how he could carry his authority among his peers. he managed his responsibilities and his people in a manner that allowed them to perform their best.
the mountain community, the biking crew, indeed, all who knew him will miss D’arcy but he will be remembered fondly.
i send my heartfelt condolences to his family, his friends, and all those affected by his passing.
As i said, D’arcy was really one of the good ones, gone way too soon. i guess we should all be grateful we had him in our lives for as long as we did... i know he left a mark on my life.
